Question #1:
Looking for the name of a sci-fi book?
I can only remember a few details:The novel I'm looking for features an Earth where a small percentage of the population have mental powers. Some are telekinetic, some are telepathic, etc. The story follows a telekinetic boy through approximately the first 20-30 years of his life.
Throughout the story, it is believed that all these people with powers have a limit. Telepaths can only speak/hear a certain distance. Telekinetics can only move a certain amount of mass a certain distance. These limits vary from person to person. Near the end of the book, the main character reveals that these limits only exist because people thought they did, making it a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts. He does so by instantly moving a large colonizing spaceship from one planet to another, when it was thought that the transit would take years.
The concept of the act of observing something changing that thing is used to explain how a telekinetic's power works. There is also something about telekinetics using power generators tuned to a certain musical note (the note varies by person) to increase their power. People frequently need to eat after using their powers.
The main character has a romance with a woman named Ciara.
I believe this book is part of a series covering different people with these mental powers across different time spans.
Question #2:
Cant you make a wheel spin using non Electronic magnets?
I have seen a prototype of a wheel spinning just using magnets. Why hasn't anyone made this work yet? Example a generator.Question #3:
If there were a car that you'd like to see blasted off the market, what would it be?
For me, it would have to be the Toyota Prius. Apart from the fact that it's miserable to drive (soggy brakes, inert steering, a weird sense of understeer) it is nowhere near as green as its buyers like to think. All the mining and processing involved in its production gives it the same carbon footprint as a Land Rover LR2 V8 after having accomplished 150,000 miles. Neodymium, used in its motor/generator, nickel, batteries and Lithium, batteries and varied electronics components are very messy to gain. To mine them involves either breaking down a mountain over time or drilling a giant hole in the ground. To process them involves transporting them over tens of thousands of miles. After which, they invariably land in China for final processing thanks to the fact that the final step prior to installation is so toxic that the People's Republic is the only place on Earth that allows it. If you want to be green, just buy a smaller, more efficient car that doesn't scream how much more environmentally aware you are than everyone else.@ JerryJ
1,) My company leased five for fleet work and we are very glad to have gotten rid of them as our reps hated them as they drove terribly.
2,) The research that you are referencing is a faulty study conducted by the Center for American Progress. I am speaking about one done by the University of Oxford Brookes, Cambridge. It used current data. Furthermore, while the Sudbury mine is cleaner than it once was it is still a matter of comparing rabies to scurvey, it is still a messy process. Also, that mine is no longer the world's largest source of Nickel, Russia is. Their standards are significantly lower Canada's.Toyota has been purchasing much (40+%) of their nickel from them. Lithium, is also a toxic process as it is found at a lower depth and is harder to refine, despite being more recyclable.
3,) Parts coming from China isn't the issue. Their toxic, exotic manufacture is.

Question #4:
GETTING READY FOR ECONOMIC CRISIS! ANY MORE IDEAS?
So what can we each individually do to somewhat insulate ourselves from the economic problems that are coming?....1 - Get Out Of Debt: The old saying, "the borrower is the servant of the lender", is so incredibly true. The key to insulating yourself from an economic meltdown is to become as independent as possible, and as long as you are in debt, you simply are not independent. You don't want a horde of creditors chasing after you when things really start to get bad out there.
2 - Find New Sources Of Income: In 2010, there simply is not such a thing as job security. If you are dependent on a job ("just over broke") for 100% of your income, you are in a very bad position. There are thousands of different ways to make extra money. What you don't want to do is to have all of your eggs in one basket. One day when the economy melts down and you are out of a job are you going to be destitute or are you going to be okay?
3 - Reduce Your Expenses: Many Americans have left the rat race and have found ways to live on half or even on a quarter of what they were making previously. It is possible - if you are willing to reduce your expenses. In the future times are going to be tougher, so learn to start living with less today.
4 - Learn To Grow Your Own Food: Today the vast majority of Americans are completely dependent on being able to run down to the supermarket or to the local Wal-Mart to buy food. But what happens when the U.S. dollar declines dramatically in value and it costs ten bucks to buy a loaf of bread? If you learn to grow your own food (even if is just a small garden) you will be insulating yourself against rising food prices.
5 - Make Sure You Have A Reliable Water Supply: Water shortages are popping up all over the globe. Water is quickly becoming one of the "hottest" commodities out there. Even in the United States, water shortages have been making headline news recently. As we move into the future, it will be imperative for you and your family to have a reliable source of water. Some Americans have learned to collect rainwater and many others are using advanced technology such as atmospheric water generators to provide water for their families. But whatever you do, make sure that you are not caught without a decent source of water in the years ahead.
6 - Buy Land: This is a tough one, because prices are still quite high. However, as we have written previously, home prices are going to be declining over the coming months, and eventually there are going to be some really great deals out there. The truth is that you don't want to wait too long either, because once Helicopter Ben Bernanke's inflationary policies totally tank the value of the U.S. dollar, the price of everything (including land) is going to go sky high. If you are able to buy land when prices are low, that is going to insulate you a great deal from the rising housing costs that will occur when the U.S dollar does totally go into the tank.
7 - Get Off The Grid: An increasing number of Americans are going "off the grid". Essentially what that means is that they are attempting to operate independently of the utility companies. In particular, going "off the grid" will enable you to insulate yourself from the rapidly rising energy prices that we are going to see in the future. If you are able to produce energy for your own home, you won't be freaking out like your neighbors are when electricity prices triple someday.
8 - Store Non-Perishable Supplies: Non-perishable supplies are one investment that is sure to go up in value. Not that you would resell them. You store up non-perishable supplies because you are going to need them someday. So why not stock up on the things that you are going to need now before they double or triple in price in the future? Your money is not ever going to stretch any farther than it does right now.
9 - Develop Stronger Relationships: Americans have become very insular creatures. We act like we don't need anyone or anything. But the truth is that as the economy melts down we are going to need each other. It is those that are developing strong relationships with family and friends right now that will be able to depend on them when times get hard.
10 - Get Educated And Stay Flexible: When times are stable, it is not that important to be informed because things pretty much stay the same. However, when things are rapidly changing it is imperative to get educated and to stay informed so that you will know what to do. The times ahead are going to require us all to be very flexible, and it is those who are willing to adapt that will do the best when things get tough.
If there was ever a time in the modern era to start growing food--it is NOW. The world-wide financial melt-down is destined to bring with it hyperinflation and food shortages. Aquaponics is our answer. Aquaponics is a hybrid technique combining the best of aqua-culture (growing fish) and hydroponics (growing veggies without soil), and it’s completely organic because the fish waste is your natural fertilizer and that means no pesticides. Aquaponics USA is dedicated to sharing information, developing products and bringing awareness of this life sustaining technology to every American home because it’s time Americans declare their Food Independence.

Question #5:
Flash text in websites. Is it readable by search engine?
I need to know that if I write my text out in a text generator as flash, that when I load this text onto say a blog site that it will still be readable by the search engines.I'm having problems with text theft. I read up about changing all my photos to flash so that they couldnt be lifted. I have some html page lock thingy now so that no-one can right click and take text or photos. (See I've become paranoid!) Now I want to use my own fonts and load them in as flash.
Will this work?
Because if it will it will solve all my problems (Because I've now stopped giving the whole information on site-now they need to join and get emails=sad!)(Yes I know about hot linking the text and photos back to my page=great idea but I dont want them to have my stuff in the first place(especially MY photos!))(and i know they can take photos of the screen with a digital camera and hand write it if they're desperate enough)
So, is flash text readable by the searchengines on a blog page?
Thankyou.

What am I doing wrong with this code?
When you select the button that says "Browser", it makes a prompt come up that says "What's your browser". I want an alert box to come up with the information about that browser when you enter the name of it into the prompt. How do I do that? Question #7:
Help with random function on calculator and calculus?
Ok so the function sin(pi/x) oscillates rapidly between -1 and 1 near the point c = 0.Here is the problem, and let me tell you ahead of time, I have NO idea how to take advantage of 99% of the things my calculator can do. So...here is the problem presented to me
"Your calculator has a command that generates random numbers between 0 and 1 (on TI 83 press Math, and choose rand in the PRB menu). Devise a scheme that uses this random number generator to reduce the chances of you choosing an unlucky pattern of evaluation points in the numerical investigation of a limit. Your scheme should meet the following requirements:
- It produces a list of evaluation points that 'over all' are progressively closer to 0. By that we mean, while it is not necessary for each number in the list to be closer to zero, than the preceding ones, as you progress down the list of numbers listed get arbitrarily close to 0.
- At each step the number the calculator produces is the next evaluation point on your list. ( Generating random numbers until you finally get one smaller than all those previously generated doesn't meet this requirement. If you are clver, you can arrange to get successive evaluation points by pressing the ENTER key repeatedly'
Ok so, im sitting here saying to myself 'wtf, ive never been taught how to manipulate a random generator and make it work to my benefit. when was I taught that? never....so I've been playing around with it trying to come up with some way to make each output get closer to 0, I've tried things like sin(pi/rand) and then after getting that random number, doing sin(pi/'previous answer') but nothing i try makes each answer closer to 0. Does anyone have any advice for how to go about doing this? and if at all possible try yourself and see if you can get it to work, because ive gotten a few answers and none of them seem to work yet : /
Question #8:
Can anyone tell me if a 5KVA deisel generator is big enough to run my house?
It needs to run a large refrigerator/freezer, 1H.P deepwell pump, microwave, rice cooker etc, with limited T.v and computer use. Obviously not all will be on at the same time. Also needs to run upto 10 flouro lights.Question #9:
Help with a VB Script?
I am making a vb script with a inputbox that appears at random spots on the screen. Thats what the random number generators are for. They are supposed to generated random integers between 1 and 100 and save them as 'a" and "b". These values would then be used for the coordinates of the inputbox. It SHOULD work the way I have it... but it doesn't.upper = 100
lower = 1
Randomize
a = Int((upper - lower + 1) * Rnd + lower)
Randomize
b = ((upper - lower + 1) * Rnd + lower)
x = InputBox ("Password Required","Please enter you user password","",a,b)
I just want it to have random numbers, in a given range to be the coordinates. Allhelp is greatly appreciated.
Sorry. It should be this...
upper = 100
lower = 1
Randomize
a = Int((upper - lower + 1) * Rnd + lower)
Randomize
b = Int((upper - lower + 1) * Rnd + lower)
x = InputBox ("Password Required","Please enter you user password","",a,b)
Question #10:
Will two generators running side by side that each produce 55db of noise produce less than 110db of sound?

Generator vs Inverter for power all day?
I am starting a business selling drinks from a ice-cream type truck. These trucks are actually empty DHL delivery trucks that I have converted over short of hooking up the machines for power. I have 4 machines each on 3 trucks and 2 machines on a cargo van. Each machine is 10 amps and need 110 volts to power them not 240. I don't know if that's start-up amperage or constant amperage. These machines are Slurpee type machines that you would see in 7/11 store or QT gas stations serving frozen drinks. I am wondering what would be the best solution to power the machines to run basically all day. The trucks are gas powered, not diesel. I am not so worried about the cost of gas to run the trucks all day if using an inverter, just trying to figure out which method would be the most sensible in providing all day power and long term usage. If I do use a generator how should I install/mount it on or in the vehicle? Also, who or where could I get them wired to do such? It seems like no one knows anything about the topic yet there are plenty of ice cream trucks and motor-homes traveling the USA which are using one or both methods, I just can't seem to find anyone who knows how or where to get it done. I asked the question before and am not getting a solid answer either way, so wanted to try again and see if someone can be a little more specific as to which source of power would be better suited. I have the room to do either in each vehicle. Also, what about back-up batteries, automatic engine start/stop switches, batteries in series/parallel, size of inverter or generator. I know I'm asking a lot but trying to get the most and best info, thanks to any who can help.Question #12:

Question #15:
blackjack c++ question?
1.Your main function cannot be more than six lines long. (not including blank lines)
2.
Your main function should not use the cout object.
3.
Every variable identifier must clearly indicate the variable's purpose.
4.
Write a boolean function that prompts the user to reply with a 'y' or 'n', then return true if the user enters a y. This function should contain the only cin in the program.
The second set of requirements involve updating the game to include all 13 cards in the deck.
5.
Upgrade your program so that it includes all of the cards in a standard playing deck. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace. Your random number generator should generate the integer values 2 through 13. Two through ten will be treated as they were in Assignment 1, but 11 through 13 will be different.
6.
Do your random number generation in a function with the following signature: char getCard(int &total). The function should accept the current total as a reference argument. The function should return the char that represents the card ('2', 'K', 'A'). In the case of a 10 card, the function should return 'X'. You can substitute the X with a “10” in your output. The function should also update the total using the reference argument.
7.
Include Aces. The 'Ace' card is either worth 11, or 1. If your random number generator generates an ace then check the total, if 11 would put the total over 21 then count the card as a 1.
The final set of requirements regards style
8.
Place your opening curly braces at the end of the control line that they belong to.
9.
Place a space on either side of all operators
10.
Place a space on the outside of all parenthesis, unless it is the opening parenthesis in a function invocation.
Here is a sample output. Notice that it uses J, Q, K, and A for the face cards.
> First cards: 3, Q
> Total: 13
> Do you want another card? (y/n): y
> Card: A
> Total: 14
> Do you want another card? (y/n): y
> Card: 7
> Total: 21
> Do you want another card? (y/n): n

Will a 4500 watt (5000 watt peak) generator power my 1/2 HP well pump?
I have had it with melting snow/buying water to flush our toilets during multi-day power outages. In fact, last winter I came up with a new unit of measurement I call the Flushment.1 Flushment is the amount of time it takes you to melt enough snow to flush 1 toilet one time using a big pot and a gas grill. The base line for me is 1 hour=1 Flushment.
Seriously, this guy looks like a good compromise between gasoline usage, reliability and price...

What do i need for my BRICK making business Project?
I want to start a brick/ blocks making business in africa i have the money, but lack the expertise in this . My question is what do i need in other to have a full functioning small size brick making plant? Yesterday i was charting with a supplier of brick making machinery online, he send me information of a semi-auto machine that can produce 19000 pcs/per8hr and cost about $20450. I would like to buy Diesel Generator to generate electricity for this project as i had been using this before for a juice project. But when i ask him about power consumption he said the machine is an Electric hydraulic forming system, but i do not have idea what is hydraulic oil/liquid forming system. The machine has 27kw GRS power what this mean in terms of fuel consumption? thank you for your answer.Question #19:
do jump houses use cords to plug in?

Question #20:
Are each of our lives nothing more than one of God's moonlit dreams?
* If we are dreams, after the dream is over does He ever remember us, or are we gone forever? Perhaps in another dream? Maybe when a person has a prophetic vision it's really just God remembering a dream wile within another human avatar dream. If we measure a person's brain quantum wave functions, can we use inductive reasoning to determine the previous iteration of the fractal function governing the waveform from a frequency-space signal analysis algorithm? Then can we piggyback the signal that generated this function by using this algorithm on a person in a psychic trance? Will this lead the the function at the iteration where the genesis of the two dream people meet? Could we then use this function to reverse the quantum polarities of the psychic so that through entanglement can mindswap the psychic with the avatar vision?* Can I use the same principle to erase the minds of people, copy mine into theirs, and generate an army of minions of my own ideology? With this technology, can I conquer all the souls of Earth forever?
* Does the pineal gland guide one consciousness manifold into a next-causal-iteration consciousness, and back again? Can I use this to calculate the wave coordinates of a person's dream, then erase that dream with a copy of my own self to possess that person's mind?
* What are the stoichiometry ratios of mystic potions that I can use to chemically disarm the mind of the subject, so that I can replicate my function into the subject's third eye using a cymatic flux interference generator inside of a crystal sphere? Would any interference of my signal create a damage to the integrity of the subjects, that which will exponentially escalate until it causes a civil war within my own ideological empire several generations from now?
* Where does the subject's consciousness go after I erase it? Does it go into a negative world, which is exactly like his own world, but with all of his emotions and personality traits reversed, basically his own dimension of personal death? This exchange of one life for my own life, can I use it to create a horcrux?
Only serious answers, please!
