Do Like The Idea Of Obama To Possibly Tax Businesses' Savings? like FDR Did Causing the G. Depression?
How the New Deal Soaked the Rich, Middle Class, and Poorby Jim Powell, March 31, 2009
The New Deal was paid for mainly by the middle class and the poor. This was because excise taxes were the biggest revenue generators for the federal government. They applied to beer, liquor, cigarettes, chewing gum and other cheap pleasures enjoyed disproportionately by the middle class and the poor. Until 1936, excise taxes generated more revenue than the federal personal income tax and the federal corporate income tax combined. Not until 1942 — in the middle of World War II — did the federal personal income tax become the biggest revenue generator for the federal government.
FDR pushed for higher excise taxes during his hallowed first Hundred Days. First came liquor excise taxes. Congress had already (February 20, 1933) passed a bill to repeal federal prohibition of alcohol in 19 states without Prohibition laws, and when this bill was ratified by the states, Washington would immediately began to collect liquor excise taxes — those taxes had never been eliminated.
To raise even more money from the sale of alcoholic beverages, FDR secured passage of the Beer-Wine Revenue Act on March 22, 1933. The following year, on January 11, 1934, Congress passed the Liquor Taxing Act which nearly doubled the excise tax on distilled liquor from $1.10 per gallon to $2, and the wine excise tax was substantially increased as well. In addition, there was a $5 per gallon tariff on imported alcoholic beverages, and FDR wasn’t about to eliminate that. Besides liquor excise taxes, FDR raised excise taxes on tobacco and gasoline.
There were more taxes during the Hundred Days. The National Industrial Recovery Act imposed a 5 percent tax on corporate dividends, and it reduced deductions for business and capital losses. The Agricultural Adjustment Act added a tax on food processors like millers which ground wheat into flour, and there were special punitive taxes on farmers who produced more than the government permitted; for instance, 33-1/2 percent of the value of tobacco above quota and 50 percent of the value of cotton above quota was taxed. Finally for 1933, there was a 5 percent tax on corporate net income above 12 percent of a corporation’s capital stock.
All this was just for openers. The Revenue Act of 1934 raised taxes on people making more than $9,000. In addition, there wasn’t any provision for carrying forward net losses to future years — while FDR wanted to share in everybody’s capital gains, he didn’t want to share their losses. FDR increased the estate tax to 60 percent. And as if FDR hadn’t learned anything from Hoover’s disastrous experience with the Smoot-Hawley tariff, the Revenue Act of 1934 introduced tariffs on coconut and other oils imported from the Philippines (a goody for farm lobbyists).
Please below an excerpt from one of many bi-lines online about Obama possible doing this too?
Would that not also Cause another Great Depression? Why Would Obama duplicate a failed policy?
*************************************************************************************************************
In his January 1935 budget message, FDR had promised that there wouldn’t be any new taxes, but on July 19, 1935, he suddenly demanded new taxes. He expressed his view that the Great Depression was somehow caused by private wealth:
Question #7:
I need a gasoline generator of 120 watts?
I want to make a battery charger out of all the current the generator will produce. Can i get this in the market for sale, or can i build it? If yes, how do i go about it?Question #8:
Could privately-owned railroad passenger coaches be attached to freight trains?
I've always imagined that it would be really neat to have a private sleeper car and get it pulled around the US (maybe even Canada) as part of a freight train. It could go places where Amtrak doesn't, at times which might be more convenient for me (in accordance with freight schedules, of course). Where might I be able to find such a coach for sale or lease? And would the freight locomotives be able to supply electricity to it, or would I also need to arrange for a generator to be on board?Question #9:
How do I get 3 phase electricity to my house?
I called the power company and asked about 3 phase, but they won't give me 3 phase :(I was wondering if there is any good 3 phase generators out there for sale.
I have a 3 phase press brake punch. Bought it for 200 bucks from someone who was about to scrap it at the scrap yard. Do you think a converter will give me enough power to run a brake punch?
found a 20 HP phase converter for 1000 dollars on ebay. I am probably going to buy it. A lot less expensive then buying a 3 phase generator that is for sure.

would be to begin a regula dividend payment to shareholder in case of expanding ?
Electronic Timing, Inc. (ETI), is a small company founded 15 years ago by electronics engineers Tom Miller and Jessica Kerr. ETI manufactures integrated circuits to capitalize on the complex mixed-signal design technology and has recently entered the market for frequency timing generators, or silicon timing devices, which provide the timing signals or “clocks” necessary to synchronize electronic systems. Its clock products originally were used in PC video graphics applications, but the market subsequently expanded to include motherboards, PC peripheral devices, and other digital consumer electronic, such as digital television boxes and game consoles. ETI also designs and markets custom application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for industrial customers. The ASIC’s design combines analog and digital, or mixed-signal, technology. In addition to Tom and Jessica, Nolan Pittman, who provided capital for the company, is the third primary owner. Each owns 25 percent of the 1 million shares outstanding. Several other individuals, including current employees, own the remaining company shares.Recently, the company designed a new computer motherboard. The company’s design is both more efficient and less expensive to 88manufacture, and ETI design is expected to become standard in many personal computers. After investigating the possibility of manufacturing the motherboard, ETI determined that the cost involved in building a new plant would be prohibitive. The owners also decided to an outside that they were unwilling to bring in another large outside owner. Instead, ETI sold the design to an outside firm. The sale of the motherboard design was completed for an after-tax payment of $30million.

Question #13:
how difficult is it to get a power plant connected to the grid?
What I am specifically referring to is in this example. Lets say we have a dairy farmer whose cows produce lots of manure. The farmer installs an anaerobic digester and produces about 100-500 kw of electricity per hour from the methane. The farmer wants to get that generator connected to the grid such that he makes money from the sale of his electricity. I know some power companies give credits for feeding energy into the grid but that is not what I am talking about. The farer wants to be able to make money from the sale of his energy. How difficult is that to do?Question #14:

a real job problem that is stressing me out?
ive been working at my first job for almost 2 years. It burns me out quickly and i hate knowing i have to show up to my shift. i love my co workers but i have problems with upper management. our job is to set up appointments for real estate agents. they call our company to set up an appointment to view a property currently being listed on the market. its a pretty easy job, all we have to do is contact the listing agent or the home owner.we have several thousands of agents who call us from texas, denver, new york, tennessee, and nevada. there are currently 150 of us represenatives who help these real estate agents. it gets pretty busy on the weekend, busy to the point where we are literally understaff and the phones just keep ringing non stop from 8 am - 10 pm.
the company tech team created a new computer program to help us out. when we had to notify the lister or the home owner, this program pulls up an appointment for us to do - simple. but lately its been glitching. for example a realtor from San Antonio calls in 8 am sharp to set an appointment to show a $350,000 home to her clients around 11:30 am. The listing agent has stated in instructions to contact and give the home owner of the property a 2 hour advanced notice prior before the viewing. the appointment is set up but for some reason the generator will pull up appointments that occur from 2 - 6 pm saturday, leaving the 11:30 appointment untouched. by 11:15 the realtor calls in asking if its ok for her to view the property. when checking the status, no one has contacted the home owner. resulting in us having to cancel the appointment.
this has been happening to hundreds of showings and it upsets me because many realtors are losing potential sales. this also concerns me because im currently preparing to take the state bar exam to get my real estate license, i dont want to experience this problem.
it has become such a problem, during our yearly meeting we spoke with our regional director about it. she assured us that the program works perfectly but for the past 4 months, i really dont think she wants to admit wrong from right. her excuse was "you guys are just lazy and need to step it up"
we are under staffed. many people have already quit and others dont take this job seriously anymore. our supervisor is very disorganized and he has a very dry sense of humor that has also been a contributing factor to my stress. last week i did a 12 hour shift because i needed the extra cash, doesnt hurt but my supervisor straight up asked me "so why you working extra, you going broke?" ...really?
i want to complain to the city's board of realtor's on how our company isnt doing our job right and something needs to be done but most of all... what do i do? i want to quit but its a such a hard choice.
Question #20:
Wash sales improperly recorded - do I refile?
In my Schedule D form for 2008, I improperly recorded my wash sales. I have one particular stock I bought and sold multiple times and had a carrying loss into 2009. Based on the IRS's vague instructions, in the following line, I just wrote "# of shares, Wash Adjustment" in column A and the loss to be carried over in the wash in column F. Now I learn that I was supposed to ALSO enter the repurchase/wash trigger date in column B. In addition, in the repurchase entry, I was supposed to use the date purchased of the original carried over/wash shares in column B. What I did in my return was just write the repurchase date with no reference to the beginning wash purchase date.I did what was exactly what was described by the Schedule D instructions, but based on a couple wash sale generators, I recorded wrong. I will admit the wash sales from this one particular stock are a bit hard to follow on my 2008 return, but it's doable. Should I refile for clarity's sake or is this not a big deal?
