I think these uC's have a specific bit in a specific register to the PWM module on or off
Another register(or set of registers?) assigns the PWM duty cycle. Other than that the PWM module doesn't need looked after and so the rest of the pic can get on with other things

The microchip data sheet should explain how to program it in assembler
