Answer #1:
Woo hooo!!!WE ARE!........ "......"
If I were you, do your research on the company you want to work for. Reverse engineer where you want to go with your career. Where do you see yourself retiring.... what state do you want to live....which companies are in that area that you like? Or if there are no good engineering companies, then how far from home do you want to go? You seem to be very worried about which direction you're going, so figure out that company. I started out as a materials science engineer at PSU main, and ended up in California working for Boeing (not anymore, manager was a real jerk) doing mechanical engineering stuff..... go figure??? ALOT of people make their own career paths, the degree really only provides the foundation and nothing more. You could be a General Engineering major, get involved in some projects, and do an internship at.... let's say GE (great company by the way, worked for them briefly as well), look at the branches and sister companies affiliated with GE in the area you want to work, and do your research on them. Find out who does Research and Development in the Green Energy discipline or whatever area you want to be, and then start contacting people and asking questions, build up a network.
And in conclusion, you should have a little fun and get involved in some community service. Companies like diversity and personality. Most jobs that I've acquired were based alot on how personable I was. OK, maybe that was a close 2nd to my experience, but psychology and personality are important in job interviews. Lastly, get yourself a gf and relieve some of that stress :) hehehe
Fight on state... fight on state.... roarrrrr lions roarrrrrrr.... I miss the football games.
